Born in Durban on the East Coast of South Africa, Roger has lived all his life in South Africa – he has lived in Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town, but always returned to the city where he, his father and sons were born.
Educated at Northlands High School in Durban, he gained his law degree after study at Natal University and the University of South Africa, some 38 years ago. He has since then practiced law and at the same time been a speaker, trainer and author – he has published several books and hundreds of articles for newspapers, magazines and on the internet.
Roger has served on committees, boards and social organisations. He was a Director of The Mediation Company (Pty) LTD. As a lawyer, Roger –
• has been self-employed since 1980;
• has been involved in a wide range of legal matters, from criminal cases, motor collisions, shipping, labour, political matters (particularly, during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s) and Family Law;
• was prominent in changing the focus from the ‘Law of Persons’ to ‘Family Law’;
• was admitted to practise in the High Court with the rights of an advocate in 1996, appearing in hundreds of cases, in that capacity;
• is a respected senior member of the legal profession in Durban and is helping to lead the move from automatic litigation, to mediation for the resolution of disputes.
Roger is the recipient of the ‘Stef du Plessis Award’, the highest honour that can be bestowed upon any of its members by the Professional Speakers Association of Southern Africa.
Roger was the 2014 / 2015 National President of the Professional Speakers Association of Southern Africa. In that capacity, he attended international speaker conferences in the U.S.A and the U.K.
