Profile:
Ben Vos is Beauty and the BEE. In this one – (wo) man piece we join Beauty in her boudoir shortly after her triumph as South Africa Business woman of the year.

Her proudly South African, Bee-registered fabric and fashion company Yebo fabrics has jus secured the largest fabric contract in South African history – the conception for the opening ceremony of the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

With tata-ma-chance struggle credentials (her drug-running father was killed in the cross-fire of the Sharpeville massacre of 1960 while delivering dagga to a group of teenagers), her sister married to the Head of the Reserve Bank and Zanele Mbeki as a personal friend, she is the ideal trophy wife of the self-made construction mogul Tobias Ramapelepele. A man who boasts the Gautrain stations among his current contracts.

With a nose for gossip and the inside line on everything from Stripes to checks and business to B.E.E, Beauty Ramapelepele gives us a “fly on the wall” view of South Africa’s black elite. Hers is a rags to riches story of our relatively tender democracy built on her simple and effective philosophy…”Invest in Africa…buy a politician!”

Synopsis:
COMEDY by Ben Vos and John van de Ruit

MAMBA REPUBLIC

They’re back, and bookings have just opened for the hottest show in town, delighting audiences with their third production in the Mamba comedy trilogy: Mamba Republic that comes to Durban’s Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from 16 May until 4 June.

Mamba Republic is a rapid-paced satirical sketch-comedy soon to hit theatres countrywide. Reuniting the talents of Ben Voss (Beauty Ramapelepele) and John van de Ruit (Spud), Mamba Republic takes a savagely funny look at all that is wrong and very wrong in the Rainbow Nation.

With their unique blend of sharp wit, hopeless optimism and clever characterisation, the duo sinks their fangs into the fiascos, farces and foibles of South African life. Whether it is their unique take on fees must fall, state capture, online dating, the economy, sport, technology, racism, an alternative national anthem, or even the most unusual football match in living memory, Mamba Republic will have you rolling in the aisles at the utter absurdity of life at the foot of Africa.

Internationally acclaimed author, van de Ruit said, “Fellow Saffas, you are in for a treat! It has been said before that we, as South Africans, are really good at laughing at the state of our nation. We will be reminding audiences how much there is to laugh at .... and adding a bit of a mamba twist.”

BEAUTY AND THE BEE

In Beauty and the B.E.E well known South African director Janice Honeyman teams up with comic star Ben Voss (Green Mamba, Black Mamba) to bring you Ben's alter ego, Beauty Ramapelepele, a 49 year-old nouveau-riche Houghton mother of two, which will be embarking on a nation-wide tour starting in Durban on 31 March. Beauty Ramapalapele is the perfect South African weapon. A black, bright, beautiful, bitchy woman at the top of her business and social game. With a nose for gossip and the inside line on everything from stripes to checks and BEE to the presidential race, Beauty Ramapelepele gives us a "fly on the wall" view of South Africa's new black elite. Hers is a rags to riches story of our relatively tender democracy built on her simple and effective business philosophy. "Invest in Africa...buy a politician!"
