Profile:
South Africa first came to know Janie du Plessis as one of South Africa’s youngest TV Presenters in the early 80’s. Her personal charm and radiant good looks quickly made her a popular South African celebrity with a brilliant career in TV presenting (Teletien, Graffiti and Revue Plus). Janie has remained a highly sought after personality with her colourful life being followed in the media by many South Africans for the past 30 years .

She married an Italian businessman and lived in Portugal and Italy for 11 years. She speaks several languages and was the editor of an English/Portuguese newspaper for expats.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997, Janie returned to South Africa with her 2 sons, Misha (now 20) and Benito ( now 18) and has since inspired audiences with her positive and spiritual approach to ‘survival’. She passionately participates in colourful charity causes and was nominated as the ‘survivor’ to represent South Africa in Washington DC at the Susan Komen Foundation’s Global Race for the Cure event in 2009. Her participation in the Journey of Hope breast cancer ride has also captured the imagination of the public as she and 12 other breast cancer survivors do an annual 2300km awareness ride into the rural areas of SA on Harley Davidsons, and so spread the message of hope and raise funds for their cause.

In 2010, Janie’s biography, ’n Keuse vir die Lewe was released by Martie Retief Meiring, the acclaimed journalist and writer. In this controversial book, Janie, for the first time, speaks about the traumatic experiences in her marriage and personal life. Her personal account of abuse, living with a drug addict and dealing with fear and loss are relevant themes in our society. Her inspirational story of surviving what is hidden behind closed doors in our homes is an important message that she is sharing with women and communities.

Starting in July 2012, Janie will be back on TV with her own talkshow on KykNet “Wat die mense sê”. This show is based on the Oprah show with media partner SARIE supporting the blogs and web forums that will interact with readers and viewers. The show is earmarked to be one of the top shows on KykNet.( Media launches will start from 16 June 2012)

Janie is also a savvy businesswoman and Managing Director of her of her own company, Odev. She has the ability to weave her personal tales into positive and humoristic, yet moving talks of how to overcome similar challenges in the corporate world, leaving her audiences inspired and encouraged.
