Profile:
Braam Malherbe is a highly sought-after international motivational speaker, extreme adventurer, TV presenter, youth developer, and author of the bestseller “The Great Run,” but most of all, he is a no-nonsense conservationist. Braam has an infectious energy that is fed by his life-long passion to protect the environment. He inspires countless others to do the same!

EXTREME PERFORMANCE - Cape to Rio row unassisted world first expedition
On the 9th May 2017, Braam achieved his third world-first. Together with his rowing partner they rowed a 6.8m rowing boat from Cape Town to Rio de Janeiro. The pair rowed in two-hourly shifts, with one rowing while the other made water and food and slept. The journey was fraught with problems, such as being capsized four times by 40 foot waves and being submerged for five minutes, their water desalinator not working and having large ships bearing down on them 27 times.

What can rowing 8 100km in 92 days across the tempestuous South Atlantic ocean with more then 2M strokes do to you? Does it build you or break you? How can you perform at your best when you row 2 hrs on and 2 hrs off 24/7 with your life permanently at risk? Focus, attention to detail and holding the greater vision are critical. These challenges and lessons do not have to be learned under such trying circumstances but are the daily differences between mediocrity and extreme performance.

We constantly deal with stress, crises and unreasonable pressure; not only in our professional environment but also in our personal lives. ‘Average’ or ‘my best’ is no longer good enough; extreme performance is key to rising above all odds. It is only when we are challenged way beyond the norm that we reach our fullest potential. Business demands that we perform, to innovate and think out of the box all the time. Curve balls are a part of life; it is how we deal with them that defines us. This is a story of winning against all odds in the most extreme of environments, overcoming the most unpredictable conditions, heroism, leadership and innovation. You can choose from three difference presentation according to your event and audience. (see synopsis info)

Braam was awarded the 2016 Titans – Building Nations Country award for South Africa and the Regional award for the SADC region in SME category. He was celebrated for his ‘leadership through motivation and action’. The year 2016 marks the sixteenth year of the programme and the fifth year of expanded footprint into the African continent and CEO Global. The awards not only aim to recognise the top achievers in business, great leaders in government, entrepreneurs and civil society activists, but also the influence of men across a range of sectors as well as their communities.

As an Honorary Ranger for South African National Parks (SANParks), he is involved in conservation and in training rangers for counter poaching operations. He co-founded the Table Mountain National Park’s Volunteer Firefighting Unit.
Braam has worked extensively as a youth developer, facilitating outdoor leadership camps where he teaches children about their place in nature as well as survival skills.

Through his guidance Braam empowers them to make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others. His mottos are: “the greatest gift in life is giving” and “nothing is impossible if you have big dreams”. In 2006 he put his convictions to the test when he and David Grier achieved a world first by running the entire length of the Great Wall of China, a distance of 4218km, at a pace of a marathon a day for 98 days.

This expedition funded the inaugural mission in South Africa for Operation Smile, an international charity organization providing corrective surgery for children born with cleft lip and cleft palate disfigurements.

After serious knee surgery and his doctors saying he’d never run again, in 2008 Braam and David completed another world first by running a “Smile around South Africa”, following the entire coastline from Namibia to Mozambique, a distance of 3278km.
Through these achievements, in excess of R2.5 million was raised for Operation Smile.

Then, in 2011/12, Braam and Peter van Kets raced 768km over 24 days, to the South Pole. The 100th-anniversary race commemorated Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen’s epic journeys in 1911/12. Only three teams finished, with Braam and Pete coming third and, in a show of tremendous camaraderie, assisting one of the British teams to the pole.

Braam has presented extensively on the SABC nature programme 50/50. In his series “Get Connected with Braam”, he motivates the audience to become aware of and appreciate the connection we all have with animals and our natural world.

As one of South Africa’s most sought-after motivational speakers, Braam leaves his audiences not only inspired, but also empowered to embrace change as a process to greater personal fulfillment.
