Synopsis:
PRESENTATIONS by WENDY ADDISON
Wendy Addison - The Conversation Whisperer - “I'm not a whistleblowing junkie, I'm addicted to courageous conversations”
1. Straight from the Horse’s Mouth – The story of South Africa’s first Corporate Whistleblower ‘South Africa’s Enron’
2. My journey from Boardroom to Street Beggar, and back
3. What do Steve Jobs and I share? ‘The Art of Breaking the Rules’
“The secret to having success…is to achieve what money can't buy”
Wendy's talk illustrates her journey of hope and justice, of courage and endurance. It covers ambition, corporate greed and skulduggery, telling the truth and alienation from a society that misguidedly applauds coveted wealth. It exposes much of what is 'wrong' in our world but more so how, by committing herself to living fearlessly, she found real value by paying a price.
5. You’re blowing it – Why Whistleblowing is always second best.
In some sense, whistleblowing exists because it brings things to light that otherwise would have remained in the shadows. But it’s always second best. Your business would be way better off if a whistleblower wasn’t the mechanism for organisational self-examination and change.
6. The Healthy Alternative to Whistleblowing
Flip the Script – Cultivate Courageous Conversations
Whistleblowing Theory and practice is about the ‘time after’, while Speaking-Listening up through the framework of Courageous Conversations is about the ‘time before’.
When people have the vocabulary, guard rails, and basic skills to investigate conflict and tell new stories, it changes everything.
7. What’s Narcissism got to do with me?
Good character can be seeded in dark places. How being brought up in a narcissistic family dynamic seeded my love for the truth.
8. Communication is a Strategy
There’s no such thing as a Diplomatic Hand Grenade. When it comes to Communication skills, there's Quality Street, and there's a One-Way Street.
Are you a good ‘Scrapper’?
Disagreement is not the Bogeyman
Cultivating Good Conflict
How to have a Healthy argument.
Jargon Monoxide removes the human from communication
Conflict is equal to sex. It’s a natural phenomenon, we need it to thrive. It has pathologies and extraordinary benefits to us as a species.
9. Whistleblowing is soooooo ‘fax machines’ – A campaign to Normalise Speaking-Listening Up
Anytime we research a group of individuals positively or negatively it not only gives a false impression of who they are and what they’ve done, it also separates them from other human beings, effectively marginalising them further.
