SPEAKER DETAILS

|
Andrea Hendrick was ready to skip the country with her son, but then realised that her 9 year sentence at Pollsmoor Prison, for a drug dealing charge, needed to be faced! She didn’t deserve to go there! She didn’t belong there. People like her didn’t go to prison, especially not Pollsmoor! She was angry, cheeky, felt better than everyone, and at one stage got beaten up so badly by the other women in the general cell, that she was removed and put into a cold, lonely single cell with just a blanket, no mattress.

Andrea had hit rock-bottom. “In order for me to deal with my issues, God needed to remove me from society and make me work through them one by one.” After serving just over 4 years, and receiving a few years taken off for amnesty she was released in April 2006 on parole and started to put my life back together. It was a long and hard road…some people still treat her like her crime.

Starting at the age of 9, Andrea endured many negative factors that led up to this event in her life, including sexual abuse, losing her father, giving a child up for adoption, attempting suicide twice and barely surviving a very traumatic and verbally abusive relationship, not to mention her agonising short 9 month marriage. But all of these events have moulded her into who she is today – a successful business woman and inspirational keynote speaker, nominated for a Business Achievement Award from the BWA in 2015.

To date, Andrea has done a number of interviews and presentations for institutions such as CapeTalk, Heart FM, Tygerberg 104FM, KykNET, and CCFM. She has aslo been featured in FairLady Magazine and Kuier Magazine.
Andrea’s interests include doing hair, cooking, entertaining and gardening.

Presentation by Andrea Hendrick

Andrea Hendrick shares her powerful journey through her talks “Life After Prison” and “Breaking the Bars to Your Own Personal Prison,” delivered through interviews and inspirational sessions for corporate audiences and interest groups.

Currently writing a book based on her life story, beginning at the age of nine, Andrea highlights a profound message: one does not need to be physically imprisoned to feel trapped. She explores how people build their own internal barriers, and how growth requires breaking them down—one step at a time.

Having survived two suicide attempts, given her daughter up for adoption, experienced a failed marriage, lost her business, and spent time in one of Cape Town’s most overcrowded prisons, Andrea’s story is one of resilience, transformation, and hope.
