Guest Speaker Ashley Lineker is an accomplished violinist and dynamic live performer whose career combines classical training, contemporary music and engaging entertainment. She has been playing the violin since the age of seven and joined the West Rand Youth Orchestra at nine, becoming its leader at just thirteen. She was subsequently invited to lead various youth orchestras in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal and completed her Royal Schools Grade 8 Practical examination in Grade 11.

Ashley completed her BMus degree in Performance cum laude at the University of Pretoria in 2013, followed by a Master’s degree in 2017. During her studies, she was the leader of the university orchestra under the baton of Prof. Eric Ricroft. She has also performed regularly with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Festival Orchestra.

Since 2014, Ashley has been the first violinist in The Muses, a dynamic string group that has performed extensively throughout South Africa and abroad. The group has collaborated with artists including Prime Circle, The Parlotones, Electric Light Orchestra, First Project, Lady Zamar, Khuli Chana and Nasty C. The Muses have released six albums, from Pop on Strings in 2012 to their sixth album in 2020, and have appeared on high-profile television programmes including Top Billing, Dancing with the Stars, Espresso, Idols South Africa and Afrikaans is Groot.

Ashley is also a member of Phoenix, a trio comprising vocals, violin and saxophone with Andy Klee and Cathy del Mei. Known for its soulful sound and strong connection with audiences, the group offers another dimension to Ashley’s versatility as a performer.

As a soloist, Ashley performs at corporate events, conferences and weddings throughout South Africa. Her repertoire spans light classics, upbeat popular music and jazz, allowing her to adapt her performances to different settings and audiences. Her technical ability, expressive interpretation and vivacious personality create engaging performances designed to connect with audiences and transport them into the music.

Ashley continues to collaborate with artists across the industry, expanding the possibilities of violin performance while remaining deeply committed to her craft. Alongside her performing career, she teaches aspiring violinists, sharing her expertise and inspiring the next generation of musicians.
