Guest Speaker Carina Bruwer is one of Africa’s most accomplished open water marathon swimmers, an internationally acclaimed musician, entrepreneur, and inspirational speaker. Known for pushing boundaries both in the ocean and in business, Carina has built a reputation for courage, innovation, and perseverance in extreme environments.

As one of the continent’s most decorated female marathon swimmers, Carina has completed some of the world’s most demanding open water swims, including the English Channel, Gibraltar Straits, False Bay, Nelson Mandela Bay, Walker Bay, Bonifacio Straits, Messina Straits, and numerous record-breaking endurance challenges. Many of her swims have been pioneering achievements, further establishing her as one of the leading figures in international marathon swimming.

Her achievements have earned global recognition, including being ranked among the World Open Water Swimming Association’s “Top 50 Most Daring, Courageous and Audacious” swimmers in the world, as well as being nominated for the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame.

In 2014, Carina founded Swim For Hope, an initiative using extreme swimming challenges to raise funds and awareness for South African charities and community organisations. Through the initiative, she has helped raise over R1 million for charitable causes while generating significant public awareness and media impact.

Alongside her sporting achievements, Carina has enjoyed an internationally successful music career, becoming known for developing an innovative performance style that helped redefine instrumental music in South Africa and beyond. Her work has taken her to international stages around the world, performing alongside globally recognised artists and audiences.

As an entrepreneur, Carina has also founded and developed multiple successful businesses, applying the same mindset of innovation, resilience, and calculated risk-taking that defines her sporting and creative pursuits.
