Guest Speaker Dan Nicholl is one of South Africa’s most sought-after personalities and presenters – warm, engaging, with a sharp sense of humour and a keen understanding of audiences. Having hosted events around the world, and worked with leading international brands, Dan has unparalleled experience on stage.He is also the host and executive producer of The Dan Nicholl Show, now entering its 13th season, and the founder and host of Dan Really Likes Wine. His love of both sport and wine stems from his career as a journalist. Dan is a former PICA Magazine Columnist of the Year, and has worked on television, radio, and in print and online journalism. He currently represents BMW, Bulgari, and TaylorMade Golf, and serves as an ambassador for the Laureus Sport For Good Foundation, and an Exco member of Reach For A Dream.

Dan’s considerable public profile is reflected in his strong social media followings through his own accounts, those under The Dan Nicholl brand, and the Dan Really Likes Wine channels that play a crucial role in the wine business. All content sits on Facebook and YouTube, with the live shows on Monday and Thursday each week broadcasting live on those three platforms. Twitter and Instagram supplement engagement with a growing audience of wine lovers, and Dan’s personal brand spaces are used to leverage content on other channels for maximum exposure. These platforms in turn offer the space for projects under the Dan Really Likes Wine banner to reach an audience that speaks directly to wine lovers and people interested in the broader industry – with an ideal example being The Sommelier Series, a 10-part online project in partnership with Nederburg that delivered considerable reach and enormous media value.

Dan Really Likes Wine, Dan’s wine business, is based around a weekly pre-recorded online wine show presented by Pick n Pay, as well as two live shows with top winemakers and personalities from South Africa and beyond. The show aims to make wine accessible and add an element of fun to a topic that’s often awfully serious, while telling the stories behind wine, and the people who make, sell and drink it. The show also extends to live events, private wine dinners, and tastings. A WSET 2 (merit) level graduate currently studying for level three, Dan has written and spoken about wine for almost two decades, and has hosted myriad wine events, including the Cape Wine Auction, where he holds the record for a single bottle of wine sold in South Africa, at R1.3-million. Dan recently worked on international online conference Wine Future 2021, hosting the opening of each day as well as celebrity wine interviews, and continues to work with leading South African wine brands to grow and support the local industry.

The Dan Nicholl Show is one of SuperSport’s most popular personality-led weekly shows on SuperSport. Over the last 13 seasons, Dan has introduced viewers across Africa to a range of local and international celebrity guests. The show premieres on Wednesday nights on SuperSport. The show has featured local and international guests including Evander Holyfield, Jamie Dornan, AKA, Wayde van Niekerk, Kelly Slater, Pearl Thusi, Shane Warne, Cassper Nyovest, Ruud Gullit, Nadia Comaneci, Maps Maponyane, AB de Villiers, Rolene Strauss and Luis Figo. The show has included broadcasts from the Laureus World Sport Awards in Shanghai, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland, the Hong Kong Sevens, and the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

From his days writing about the game as sports editor at iafrica.com and commentating on matches for Cape Talk, Dan has a long and passionate relationship with the game. He has hosted international Beyond Rugby summits in Philadelphia and London, hosted corporate guests at the 2015 World Cup final, worked with DHL on events and hospitality for the 2019 World Cup in London, Hong Kong and Japan, and worked with players including Dan Carter, Brian O’Driscoll, Lawrence Dallaglio, Serge Betsen and Sir John Kirwan at corporate events around the world. A steady fullback with a deceptive lack of pace, Dan also coached the Leo Marquard Lions to the University of Cape Town internal championship in 1999, ending his coaching career on a high note.

Dan is based in Johannesburg, married with two children, and has a very large dog called Stavros, whose chief job is guarding Dan’s cellar.
