Guest Speaker Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp is one of the most recognised media personalities in South Africa. The highly influential ‘mom-trepreneur’ is a popular radio broadcaster, television presenter, actress, online content producer and businesswoman.
All of Elana’s platforms, online or not, are run to emit positivity and motivation. Just as she believes that social media is something that must be used for good, she prioritises a feel-good approach which not only considers, but actively nurtures topics pertaining to mental health and overall well-being.
Elana has extended her strengths to something very close to her heart as the founder of a project called Baby Brunch. What started with events to bring together modern parents and moms-to-be looking for support has since grown tremendously to become Parent + Baby Brunch supported by Fedhealth. This platform also runs a successful podcast hosted by Elana called Baby Brunch | The Parenting Series, which regularly trends among the top 10 podcast charts in South Africa. Through this, Elana has mentored moms to create their own digital platforms to further share their stories and experiences, paying forward the growing network of support.
Over and above her podcast, Elana is currently the presenter of The Workzone on Jacaranda FM, weekdays 9am to 12pm. With radio as her first love, she has built up extensive experience over the past 21 years, including time broadcasting for 5FM and KFM and earning an MTN Radio Award nomination along the way.
Her latest television acting role is that of Gertrude Koopman in the hit kykNET primetime legal drama Fynskrif. Elana also featured in Season 2 of Sara se Geheim on kykNET. In the role of TV presenter, Elana has been a part of the Expresso Morning Show on SABC3, Afskaal on kykNET, and, as the SAFTA-nominated Madame Speaker, Parlement Parlement on kykNET. Other past TV-hosting roles include The Road to Miss South Africa and numerous shows for M-Net and SuperSport.
Elana is a recipient of Glamour Magazine’s Most GLAMOURous Award. It was thus a natural next move for the multi-talented trailblazer to partner with Glare Modern Vintage to create a new clothing line, E L A N A by Glare, which launched in April 2020.
Elana’s love of cooking sparked the development of her meat-free recipe series online. To pair with fine food, there is wine, and Elana launched her own wine range in 2014 – Elana Wine. This boutique Shiraz range produced in the Durbanville Wine Route region went on to collect a gold Michelangelo Award.
Not a beauty without a cause, Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp is a family-oriented wife and mother who uses her position in the media to address important topics with gentle candour and to bring hope and light to all those reading, listening and watching.
