Guest Speaker and Keynote Presenter Max du Preez is a veteran journalist, author and political analyst.

He was the political correspondent of the Financial Mail, Sunday Times and Business Day before he launched the rebel Afrikaans newspaper Vrye Weekblad in 1988. He joined the SABC in 1994 and produced and presented programmes such as the TRC Special Report and Special Assignment.

He relaunched Vrye Weekblad as an online newspaper two years ago. He was awarded honourary doctorates by the universities of Stellenbosch and the Free state. Other awards include the Nat Nakasa Award by the SA National Editors Forum, The Ahmed Kathrada Leadership Award, the Louis M Lyons award by Harvard University, the Distinguished Leadership Award by the American Biographical Institute and the 2006 International Journalist of the Year by Yale University.

The last of his 14 books, A Rumour of Spring, received the Alan Paton Award for non-fiction.

Max’s presentations include context, analysis and inside information regarding the power struggles in the ANC and opposition parties, the undercurrents in the national discourse and what this means for business and the economy.
