Defining themselves as the “band with the groove” Tokyo Groove has managed to combine the very best of Motown with South African legends and the latest Top 40 hits in a stylish, energetic performance that ensures that once the dance floor opens … it stays open!
Tokyo Groove exploded onto the main-stream music scene with their debut hit single “Get Down Saturday Night” in 2009. The track charted nationally and hit Number 1 in both CT and JHB, adding to the band’s phenomenal reputation and increasing their demand in the festival and mainstream circuit. 2010 ended with another hit single as “Celebration” reached Number 1 again in both CT and JHB and “That’s The Way Love Is” in 2011 confirming the bands reputation and proving that they were here to stay.
Six years after the inception of the group, the band is still enjoying their phenomenal success & well-earned reputation as one of the most consistent and reliable Party Bands in the market place. As their primary focus is on entertaining their audience with their live performances, recording an album was never a priority for Tokyo Groove but … giving their audience what they wanted was … so after many, many requests, Tokyo Groove took some of their favourite songs and released “VI” towards the end of 2014, recognizing their six years of success.
Primarily a Corporate Band, this incredibly dynamic group has been performing at SA’s Top Events since early 2008 and has earned themselves a reputation for professionalism, quality and a really good party. From their sophisticated appearance through to their versatile repertoire and overall professionalism, Tokyo Groove has become a favourite on the Corporate Scene.
Their reputation speaks for itself with repeated bookings by SA’s Top Blue Chip Clients and performances at some of South Africa’s most prestigious events and after-parties, including The Launch of The MSC Sinfonia, Emperors Summer Holiday Festival, The Nedbank Golf Challenge, Welcoming Miss World, Miss South Africa, The 94.7’s Nando’s Peri Peri Cruise, New Year’s Eve Party at the Super Bowl (Sun City) two years in a row, Vodacom, Coca-Cola Namibia and dozens of corporate events for companies like Telkom, Engen, Impala Platinum, Bidvest, Standard Bank, Absa Bank, FNB, Nedbank etc. as well as a number of private events and weddings.

As with everything in the music industry, it’s a combination of talent and hard work. Their repertoire is extensive, the talent undeniable and the performance is mesmerising. The band has an incredible presence on stage and Sangoma’s vocal ability never cease’s to amaze audiences as he adapts to each and every genre effortlessly.
One of SA’s most prolific and energetic front men, Sangoma has a wealth of experience behind him which comes through at each and every show. Having spent over six years with Tokyo Groove and five years prior to that in the music industry, including being the front man for Denim, he has had the opportunity to perform to the crème de la crème both locally and internationally.
