Profile:
Alfie, born Andrew Paul Cox, was born in 'Maritzburg. From humble beginnings, Alfie's mom was a taxi driver by day and worked the cafeteria at the drive-in at night. Alfie did not enjoy school, he battled with his studies, but never missed a day. He loved the social and sport side of his school day. From an early age - he knew what he wanted to do - ride/race motorcycles and work on them!
In 1977 his parents managed to get a bank loan for a 50cc buzz bike (costing R600,00), so he could ride to school and back. During this time however, a good friend, Mr. John Smith who ran a motorcycle dealership, and had seen Alfie ride on a friends' bike on the weekend and he put a proposal to Alfie: If he was serious about riding/racing he should sell his 50cc and go back to riding his bicycle to school... well the rest is history and that is where the story begins.
Alfie Cox was given an opportunity to do the 1998 Paris Dakar Rally - he would be given a 660 Rally bike but all costs would be for his account. How would he do it? Raffle tickets - standing outside the gates of Kyalami selling tickets. Since then Alfie has raced the Dakar on both two and four wheels, and won the South African Championships on both two and four wheels.
