Profile:
Alison is a renowned International inspirational speaker. Her story is a riveting drama of how a courageous woman found the inner strength to triumph over intense physical and emotional trauma.

Courage which allowed her to transcend and transform a devastating experience into something positively life-affirming. Alison's refusal to become a victim continues to inspire people all over the world.

In December 1994, Alison was abducted outside her home by two men who raped, stabbed and disembowelled her, finally slashing her throat 16 times to make sure she was dead. No-one could have believed that anyone with such severe injuries could live but, miraculously, she did.

The manner in which she survived, her inner strength and determination, her lack of bitterness, and her serenity and humility captured the attention of South Africa and the world. In 1995, she was awarded the prestigious Rotarian Paul Harris Award for 'Courage Beyond the Norm'.

In the same year she was the first recipient of the Femina magazine's 'Woman of Courage' award. She was also chosen as Port Elizabeth's Citizen of the Year at a glittering ceremony.

"No matter the circumstances, you always control your attitude, your beliefs and the choices you make.."

When the going gets tough, we need ordinary people of extraordinary strength and courage to jolt us into action and offer us hope. In December 1994 Alison Botha became such an individual.

The filmmakers behind Alison, a documentary featuring inspirational South African Alison Botha, have entered pre-production. The documentary is built around an intimate interview with Alison, who had protected the film rights of her story until coming to an agreement with director Uga Carlini.

The film tells the story of the brutal attack in 1994 in which Alison was raped, stabbed in the abdomen 37 times, disemboweled and her throat slashed 17 times and what has happened in Alison’s life since – a side to her audiences hasn’t come to know or see just yet. A story of magic, monsters and hope like none other and proof that we can be the heroes in our own stories.

Produced by Amy Nelson and directed by Uga Carlini, who will be steering the fairy tale inspired visual realisation. Christia Visser stars as young Alison in the reenactment scenes. Carlini’s Towerkop Creations which specialises in female driven heroine stories is the producing film company. The film is due for release at NuMetro cinemas countrywide on 12 August 2016 - exciting times!

'I have always hoped that by sharing my own journey with others, it would give them hope and courage for their own. To have my story and ultimate triumph shared on screen, would mean that so many more people would see the power of choice that we each have; and might also choose to triumph over life's hardships.' - Alison Botha.

Synopsis:
PRESENTATION by Alison

Alison has been speaking on the professional speaking circuit for several years. Her aim to 'make a difference' has been overwhelming as she has spoken to countless thousands of people which include large business corporations, women and social groups as well as several schools. She has addressed international audiences in over 20 different countries including the USA, Australia, Europe, Asia and Africa.

Audiences sit in rapt attention as Alison speaks of the brutally cruel torture to which she was subjected and how she has overcome the challenge of that experience by applying her own ABC - Attitude, Belief and Choice. You learn to recognise the importance of attitude at all times. You will gain insight into the power of belief in yourself and she will share of the freedom and responsibility of making choices, no matter what happens in your life.

Not everyone has the natural talent to inspire others from bad experiences but her message teaches how valuable life is and that the solutions to the challenges facing us lie within ourselves. Alison weaves her three strands of her life's philosophy - attitude, belief, choice - into an unbreakable lifeline of strength for all to hold onto as a life skill never to be forgotten.

Penguin Books S.A. published Alison's story "I HAVE LIFE" in November 1998. The book recounts in riveting fashion the story of her ordeal, will to live and miraculous recovery, both physically and mentally. A powerful message of inspiration written in an un-putdownable style.

"FOR THE TOUGH TIMES" was published by Penguin Books in 2002.
